How to play
Enter an English word with five letters. Once you enter it, the app evaluates the word and shows the result in colors: green – the letter is in the right spot; yellow – it is in the word, but elsewhere; gray – it is not in the word. You have six tries.
The app's Manual (book icon in the menu column) explains everything else: game modes, hints, the Game of the Day, the Lexikon, statistics and settings.
The menu column
The Manual, your statistics (“You” and “Game”), the Lexikon and Settings live in the menu column with five buttons.
- iPhone, and iPad in portrait: tap the free space beside or below the board and the menu column slides in from the right. Tap outside it, or swipe it to the right, to send it away.
- iPad in landscape, and Mac with a wide window: the menu column is always shown to the right of the board.
- Mac with a narrow window: the menu button at the top right opens the column. On the Mac, ⌘M also opens the Manual and ⌘, opens Settings.
To close a window, use “Close”, tap beside it, or on iPhone swipe it to the right.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I start a new game?
- Tap the logo in the top left corner. An unfinished game is not counted in your statistics.
- Why can't I change the game mode?
- The mode can only be changed before your first guess. Start a new game to pick another one.
- Where are the hints in the Game of the Day?
- The Game of the Day is the same word for everyone and is played without hints.
- My statistics don't appear on my other device.
- Settings and finished games are synced through iCloud. Make sure both devices are signed in to the same Apple Account and that iCloud is allowed for FiveLetterFun (Settings → your name → iCloud → Saved to iCloud). Syncing happens when the app is opened.
- How do I reset my statistics?
- Open “You” in the menu column and choose “Clear Statistics…” at the bottom. This removes your Normal, Hard and Expert games on all your devices and cannot be undone.
